Investing is merely a means to an end. It is the toolkit that we use to help our clients meet their objectives. We seek to become better at it to increase the likelihood of those objectives being met. Ultimately, we have a duty to act on behalf of our clients, and to do that the ‘problem of investment’ needs to be viewed from outside the box. Hence our passion for investing – it stems from our belief that an open-minded perspective gives us the best chance of meeting our clients’ objectives. That’s the reason we invest. The objective is the end; investing is just the means.
And that’s why we – the investment community – should be excited about the new challenge the world has set us. The global community of future-conscious people has asked us to use investing – our unique and powerful toolkit – to bring about change in the world. We’re pleased that the world has put its faith in us – that they believe our form of intelligently-directed capitalism can be effective in driving the agenda for a more sustainable future. And we don’t mind the scrutiny, the cynicism and the criticism – it helps us to refine our toolset and improve our means to achieve progress. And whilst it doesn’t always seem like it, we can confirm that investors live on planet Earth too.
